Ways to manage work stress

Work stress is inevitable for every employee.
Some challenges and job-related stress can actually help workers stay productive and grow professionally. However, excessive stress can lead to mental distress or burnout.

Here are some tips you can try when stress at work starts to feel like it’s “too much.”

1. Improve your time management
Prioritise what is important and urgent each morning to help maintain focus. This can also save time otherwise spent on unnecessary distractions, such as workplace gossip (though we know a little gossip can have its own social benefits!).

2. Consider your natural energy levels
Everyone works differently. Some people feel energised after an early morning workout, while others may be night owls who become more productive later in the day. Understanding your own rhythms can help you schedule tasks more effectively.

3. Practice mindfulness and relaxation
Mindfulness and relaxation are two different practices. Mindfulness training helps you focus on the present moment without worrying about the past or future, which can increase productivity. Relaxation techniques, on the other hand, are useful for managing anxiety and helping you feel calmer at work.

4. Talk to your manager about workload
For many employees, this can be the most effective step. Arrange a time to speak with your manager and express your concerns respectfully. Seeking understanding and support from management can go a long way in reducing workplace stress.
